Big gardens, big trees and sandy ground. Sevenoaks rewards a tree surgeon who plans each job rather than turning up with a chainsaw and an opinion.
Sevenoaks
Sevenoaks sits high on the Greensand Ridge, where light, sandy soil drains quickly and suits oak, beech, Scots pine and birch. Many of the larger roads were laid out with generous plots, so trees planted a century ago have had room to become very large indeed.
The Great Storm of October 1987 is still part of local memory. Seven oaks were planted on The Vine in 1902 to mark Edward VII's coronation, and the storm brought down six of them. Few towns have a clearer reminder of what high winds do to big, unmanaged crowns.
With Knole's deer park on one side of the town and the Kent Downs to the north, a lot of Sevenoaks gardens border established woodland. That means shared boundaries, overhanging limbs and conversations with neighbours, and we're happy to help with those too.

Sevenoaks District Council
Preservation orders and conservation areas in Sevenoaks are handled by Sevenoaks District Council, which also covers Edenbridge and the villages in between. The town has several conservation areas, and plenty of its larger trees carry orders. We look up the status of yours before quoting, prepare any application or six-week notice ourselves, and book the work once consent is through.
Services in Sevenoaks
Reducing and thinning large oaks, beeches and pines over houses while keeping their natural shape and the character of the road.
→Dismantling tall conifers and dead trees in sections, where a garden is too valuable or too tight to drop anything in one piece.
→Checking crowns before the winter gales and clearing up quickly afterwards, with the paperwork your insurer will want.
→Grinding stumps out of lawns and drives, with machines narrow enough for most side gates.
→Holly, yew and laurel boundaries cut back to height and finished to a straight line.
→Common here
Sandy soil drains fast, so trees here suffer in drought sooner than trees on clay. Thinning or dieback at the top of a crown after a dry summer is worth having looked at.
